The Blair Witch Project is getting a Blu-ray and VHS re-release — how to buy

Lionsgate Limited just opened preorders for a 2-disc Blu-ray edition and an exclusive VHS release of the found-footage horror classic, The Blair Witch Project, both landing on Oct. 13.

The Blair Witch Project follows three film students who vanish in the Maryland woods while shooting a documentary about a local legend, with only their footage left behind. What made it a genuine phenomenon back in 1999 was how many people actually bought it — the directors built an eerily convincing website and online mythology treating the “documentary” as real, complete with “missing” posters for the cast.

More than 25 years later, it’s still one of the most influential horror movies ever made — and now it’s finally getting a release that matches its legacy.

The Blu-ray packs three versions of the film: the filmmaker-approved theatrical cut, the festival cut (newly restored from the original Hi8 tapes and 16mm film), and the original 35mm theatrical version. Extras are stacked too — new cast interviews plus legacy bonus content like the original directors’ commentary, deleted scenes, and the Curse of the Blair Witch mockumentary.

The VHS, meanwhile, is pure nostalgia — no extras, just the format that basically defined the movie’s whole “is this real” marketing hook back in the day.
